This image reminds me of the cover art for Washed Out’s first album, which of course makes me think of their music, which then brings to mind those “endless summer” poster ubiquitous in college dorm rooms across America. That in turn makes me think of freshman year in college and of the lake and water-skiing, so in the end it just moves me from one body of water to another. From Sea to Lake, Ocean to Pond.

Well, you know the fastest way to make me nostalgic is mention Knox County, fall weather or the 90s clothing stlying of WB teen drama Felicity. So when fall hit Boston today and I walked through a park that reminded me of Kenyon and I felt compelled to wear a baggy plaid shirt, all the blurred-edge memories came flooding back. Fall in New England is lovely, but I miss fall in rural Ohio.

Jumping the Shark

Professional punditry jumped the shark a long time ago, yet it steamrolls on via blogs, online magazines, cable news drivel and old-school paper journalism. Do I care what John Dickerson thinks of Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize? No. Same goes for Michelle Malkin, Rush Limbaugh, Ann Applebaum, the Huffington Post writers and all other manner of liberal or conservative opionaters. I want more than reaction and spin. I want something thought provoking. Something that adds to the conversation rather than flat-lining it into a never ending descension of everyone says the same thing, only using different adjective and adverbs.

Also: I am tired of reading self-referential articles. Slate is so guilty of this. Every week brings a new “such and such article in Slate caused such and such politician to do such and such.” Oh really? When did we become so sure of causality?
